Pottery Zero to Hero - We believe you can!

We often find people are really nervous when they begin potting with us (not that we are scary!) ; because we tend to work with more mature folk; people who are looking for a hobby as life changes in those tender middle years. You can feel a bit out of your comfort zone with new challenges.

Becky did our Intense Throwing Weekend, the pot on the left is her very first and the mug on the right made her happy! This is Becky’s retirement plan : )

Often people find they have time once kids have headed of to university or maybe deciding that a wholesome hobby will be a big help dealing with the stresses and strains of menopause or a demanding career.

I took part in the beginners throwing class this week followed by stage 2 the next day and they were just brilliant!! I highly recommend doing the courses back to back if you can, it helps keep everything fresh in your mind to take on the next skill level.
Leyla who took the class, assisted by Gaye were both lovely and extremely warm and friendly in their approach and I felt completed supported throughout the whole process. I can’t wait to start the next stage of my pottery journey and I’m very excited about collecting the pots I made too.
The studio is very beautiful and a wonderful space to work in especially being surrounded by Gaye and Leyla’s inspiring ceramics. On the whole, just an amazing experience, thank you lovely ladies!

Niece here is also setting up a home studio : ) She comes to Throwing Practice & Troubleshooting for help advancing her skills.

We understand that it’s not easy starting a new hobby and we are really careful to make sure people feel supported and get help at their level with no pressure to be natural. The fun is in the process of learning and that is where the relaxation beings.

A rough guide to your independent potting journey - everyone is different, that is what keeps it interesting for us : )

If you have not done any pottery before we highly recommend starting with an Introduction Day. This will give you a really good overview and a sense of our studio and how it works. You will have time to explore all the areas and see members spaces in action.
