Spreading the Clay - Caroline's Story

Results of our skills workshop Bottle focus

Watching our members' skills grow is such a privilege. There is something magical about watching somebody throw clay for the first time, getting the clay bug and then developing their skill and watching their confidence grow. They come to our skills workshops uncovering knowledge and skills to enable them to make shapes and vessels that they probably thought they would never make before they set foot into the studio.

Well Caroline Walley  has done just that. Caroline joined the studio in 2020, like everyone, life went on hold due to the pandemic but  after lockdown she continued and became one of our members. Pottery was something Caroline had always wanted to do.

I love the feeling of the clay and the satisfaction of making something. It is so engrossing that I don’t think about anything else going on so it’s very therapeutic!

Caroline’s first thrown pot : )

When you come to our  Throwing  Skills Workshops,  Leyla guides you through developing your confidence with techniques that enable you to create those pots that you may feel were out of your reach.

Caroline has joined many of our Skills Workshops such as bowls, lids & bottles; we just love watching her put them into practice with such dedication.

A celebration of commitment to throwing & glazing!

I’ve done many of the studio workshops and they’ve been invaluable in learning different throwing skills - bowls, mugs, lidded vessels, bottles, bowl’s & moon jars”
“I’m usually just trying to use the skills I’ve learnt in a workshop to make different pieces.
— Caroline Walley

Another of her latest creations, simple & beautiful.

Everyone needs to have a goal in life and that’s no different when making pottery. We love Caroline’s pots, just look at what she has made and for her next goal she wants is to get Bigger! … go Caroline we know you can do it!

“I love my time in the studio, I don’t think there’s anything else I could ask for to make it better!”
